Since the foundation of the Montanuniversitaet Leoben, the competences have been continuously deepened and developed in order to actively bring them into current, socially relevant issues. This is reflected in our three areas of competence for the future, which are Sustainable Processes, Smart Materials and Advanced Resources. Role in Dust2Value: MUL as Project Coordinator will mainly focus on WPs such as project management (WP1), contributing to the development/optimization of the innovative Dust2Value process technology (WP3/WP6) as well to the corresponding technical equipment (WP3/WP5).

BEFESA is a leading player in the circular economy, providing environmental, regulated services to the steel and aluminium industries with facilities located in Germany, Spain, Sweden, France, as well as in Turkey, South Korea, China and the US. Through its two business units, Steel Dust and Aluminium Salt Slags recycling services, which are a critical part of the circular economy, Befesa manages and recycles around 1.9 million tonnes of residues annually, with a production of around 1.7 million tonnes of new materials, which Befesa reintroduces in the market, reducing the consumption of natural resources.

Role in Dust2Value: Main exploitation partner; WP7 leader (Evaluation of process stream) and WP8 leader (Communication, dissemination, exploitation); Evaluation of quality of the Dust2Value recycling products. Health, safety, environmental impact and techno-economical assessment of the technology and the entire concept. Business plan development.

InsPyro is a technology company specializing in the optimization of industrial processes. InsPyro has over 10 years of experience in the metallurgical industry and successfully developed new metallurgical processes and improved existing processes. The InsPyro team is trained in the state-of-the art metallurgical modelling tools and material characterization. In previous projects, we realized improved energy efficiencies, increased capability to deal with secondary materials and reduction in operational issues.

Role in Dust2Value: WP4 leader (process modelling and simulation); development of the digital twin of the prototype process plant.

PoliMI is a public scientific-technological university which trains engineers, architects and industrial designers. Role in Dust2Value: PoliMI is the WP2 leader and is mainly involved in the characterization of dust and residues to identify which potential source can be used as raw material for feeding the D2V kiln. Is also involved in the characterization of the output materials from the process (Direct Reduce Iron, Zinc oxide, wastewater) together with the other partners in WP.

Georgsmarienhütte GmbH, based in Georgsmarienhütte, Lower Saxony, is a leading European supplier of crude steel, steel bars and bright bars based on quality and engineering steels. In addition, the company supplies machined and ready-to-install components. Already today, Georgsmarienhütte is one of the most climate-friendly steel companies in Germany. With its comparatively low-CO2 value chain, which consists of melting scrap in the electric arc furnace and recycling it into new steel, the company is a pioneer in sustainable steel production, making an important contribution to the circular economy. Besides the automotive industry and its suppliers, Georgsmarienhütte serves customers in the mechanical and plant engineering and energy industry. Steel made in Georgsmarienhütte is used where exceptional stresses have to be coped with, where power is generated and immense forces have to be transmitted, and where safe and wear-resistant operation is essential.

Role in Dust2Value: Task leader in relation with the evaluation of the DRI quality and partner in order to represent the interests of the steel making industry.
